Introduction to Yangshuo

With a history of more than 1,400 years, Yangshuo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. Still, with a little help from Yangshuo Guide, you will be able to get away from the crowds and discover the quiet beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Yangshuo is located 66 km south of Guilin city in Guangxi province. Yangshuo county has a population of about 300,000 and covers over 1,428 square kilometers. Many ethnic minority groups -- including Zhuang, Han, Hui, Yao, Miao, and Tong -- live here, and each group has its own folk customs and local culture. Nowadays, Yangshuo has also been a magnet for westerners, who have brought their own colorful cultures into the mix.

Yangshuo is famous for its unique karst mountains, fantastic caves, picturesque Li River, and local cultures. That must be the reason why it has attracted many travelers, including well-known leaders from home and abroad.

The oldest street in Yangshuo, West Street offers a blend of Chinese and Western cultures, and so it is often also called "Foreigner Street" or "Global Village." West Street's thousands of shops, restaurants, and bars attract many foreign and domestic tourists.
